The Book Of Strange New Things
''The Book of Strange New Things'' is a 2014 science fiction novel by Dutch-born author Michel Faber. The work was first published in the United States on October 28, 2014 and concerns an English pastor who is sent to the planet of Oasis to teach its reclusive native inhabitants about Christianity. Michel Faber has stated that ''The Book of Strange New Things'' may be his last written work.
== Synopsis ==
Set in the 21st century, Peter Leigh is an English pastor with a checkered past. He is selected by an American company specialized in establishing off-world colonies called USIC to travel to the mysterious planet of Oasis to teach its native inhabitants the Christian faith. Leaving behind his wife Beatrice and their cat Joshua, Peter journeys to Oasis to teach the withdrawn Oasans about God using his knowledge of the Bible, which the Oasans revere as "The Book of Strange New Things".
